Well we just got back from a last minute Road trip today for fun. No this was not planned, No we could not "Afford" it but Yes we "needed" it. I was so nice to get away with the kids today and enjoy being together as a family.
We got up around 7 this morning had breakfast as a family, packed the car up and some snacks and were on the road by 9 am. We had to stop to pay a bill and grab a cup of coffee oh and some Gas and we were Officaley on the road by 10:15 AM. We drove up the Colombia Gorge today with the kids to Cascade locks to see My Friends Daughter who I have not seen since she was 9 and she is now 15 1/2. We picked her up at the campground she was staying at with her grandparents and headed off to Boniville Dam. Oh let me back up before we left we had a potty break and time to play in the park as the kids need to strech a bit. So off to Boniville Dam we went It has been so long since I have been there that it was nice to go back. We toured the Dam, watched fish in the Fish ladder, checked out the observation deck and toured the museum and power house. For thos who do not know, Boniville where a lot of Oregon power comes from. After touring the Dam we headed over to the fish hatchery. We got to see Henry the Stergon (He was huge) and tons of trout. This kids had fun and we walked there legs off. Then it was off to Lunch we stopped a local pub in Cascade Locks for Pizza and Root Beer. Oh my was the pizza awesome and there were weird things on it but still yummy. My kids so forgot there manners I don't know if they were trying to show off or it was because the were tired and hungry but still it would have been nice to not have to keep saying "sit" "don't yell" "say Please" ect. YOu get the point. After lunch we took my friend home and watched the kart races that were going on for a bit. It was so cool some of the carts in the campground got up to almost 50 mph on the straight aways. After leaving the Park we headed home....
We stopped at one point to watch trains which is one of my DS favorite things to do. Then we headed down to Multnomia falls to see the Falls. There were tons of people there but the kids still thought it was cool to see. DS played in the little creak of water from the falls and had a great time with the others that were playing it. Then we got in the car to finish the trip to Portland where we stopped at the Airport to watch planes come in and go out. We had a great time doing that including a emergency trip to the Potty as DD waits to tell us tell the last minute. The closest bathroom was 3 miles down the road at the local McD's and the entire way we kept hearing I got to "Pooh". I was laughing so hard because she was so cute saying but I felt bad for her. We grabbed some snacks there and then headed back to watch planes some more before heading home. We are now home and tired but we had a great time as a family.
